Ornithologists have been gathering in large numbers in a West Berkshire village after unusual visitors were spotted in the mistletoe. Twitchers first spotted the waxwings just over a week ago in the churchyard in Aldermaston, happily eating berries. And many people have been visiting since, to photograph and enjoy watching the birds, which The Wildlife Trusts called “one of the most beautiful birds seen in the UK”. A lack of food for their population numbers closer to their home in Scandinavia and Western Russia is thought to have been the reason we have seen an irruption of waxwings this year…
