Two former police officers were sentenced to decades in prison on Thursday for the murder of Brazilian politician Marielle Franco six years ago. Both had confessed. The officer who admitted to the killing received 78 years and 9 months and the other, who admitted to assisting in the attack, got 59 years and 8 months. They must also pay compensation to her relatives. The verdicts were read out in a television broadcast of the trial.
