Residents have ended their blockade of the ruined city of Machu Picchu in Peru after seven days. “We have received the good news that the strike is ending,” Culture Minister Leslie Urteaga told radio station RPP on Wednesday. “Now we have to get operations running again so that people can visit this miracle that we as Peruvians are so proud of.” Demonstrators were protesting a private company’s contract to sell tickets for access to Machu Picchu.
