A man accused of a carjacking and an assault in Essex County from 2022 was convicted by a jury, Essex County officials announced Wednesday. Jose Mercado, 22, of Jersey City was found guilty of conspiracy, carjacking, armed robbery, aggravated assault and weapons charges stemming from a July 2022 incident.
