Lots of fresh snow and gale-force winds have caused a considerable avalanche risk in the southern Alps of Austria and Switzerland. On Easter Monday, there was a high avalanche risk in the southern Ötztal Alps and the central Stubai Alps in Austria, as well as in parts of Grisons and Valais in Switzerland, but also in South Tyrol in Italy. “Very large and occasionally extremely large spontaneous avalanches are to be expected,” the Swiss Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF) said in Davos on Easter Monday.
