An interesting tale of murder, miracles, and myths will be told at a town venue. Discover Downham is hosting a talk by Adrian O’Dell MA about William of Norwich on Wednesday, June 19 at 7.30pm. In the period of anarchy under King Stephen from 1135-1144, a Norfolk youngster was found “murdered”. The young man, William, was venerated, and a series of astounding miracles were attributed to him. His death was blamed on Jews and a rumour grew that children’s blood was used for religious rituals. Admission to the intriguing talk costs £4, and £3 for members.
