Three bodies were brought from the snow several hours after a large avalanche in Zermatt in Switzerland, police said on Monday. A fourth person was injured in the avalanche. The bodies were found after a search involving a large contingent of police and rescue workers, a spokesman for the police in Valais canton said earlier. Zermatt lies below the Matterhorn, Switzerland’s well-known peak and the avalanche occurred in a variant area, police said, meaning terrain where experienced skiers normally ski in deep snow outside the marked and controlled ski pistes.
