The German government has officially paved the way for a German Olympic bid for 2040. In Paris at the 2024 Games, Interior and Sports Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) signed a basic agreement with the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) as well the federal states and cities interested in a bid. Berlin, Leipzig, Munich, Hamburg and the Rhine-Ruhr region want to host the Games but a joint effort with two bidders is likely.
