Gold medal favourite Mathieu van der Poel of the Netherlands did not inspect the Olympic cycling road course ahead of Saturday’s race because of an imposed speed limit. “We had to ride in a group and could not be faster than 30kmph. That doesn’t make sense for me,” world champion Van der Poel said. The 18.4 kilometre loop at the end of the 273km course, to be contested three times, was open for inspection on Thursday for two hours.
