German beer consumption is continuing its downward path, the Federal Statistical Office reported on Thursday as it released turnover figures for 2023. German breweries sold 8.4 billion litres over the course of the year, 4.5% down on the 2022 figure. That year saw a slight rise, but the trend has been downwards since the 1990s as a result of demographic trends and the shift to alcohol-free beverages.
