Inflation in Germany weakened further in March, with consumer prices falling to 2.2% above the same month last year from 2.5% in February, according to preliminary data released by the Federal Statistical Office on Tuesday. This is the lowest figure since April 2021, when it was 2%. In January, the annual inflation rate was 2.9%. Despite the expiry of the energy price cap at the beginning of the year and the increase in the carbon price to €45 ($48.36) per ton of carbon dioxide (CO2), energy became 2.7% cheaper in March.
