A 66-year-old US citizen is in custody in the United States after a matching fingerprint connected him to the long-unsolved killing of a woman in Germany in 1978. The man had been stationed in Germany as a young US soldier at the time when – on June 11, 1978 – a 35-year-old woman was killed in her apartment with more than 30 stab wounds in the town of Ludwigsburg in south-west Germany.
