The new Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has appointed a moderate diplomat as his vice president, according to state news agency ISNA. Former foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will support the president in strategically important issues, ISNA reported. Zarif was already acting as a top advisor to the new president before this appointment. Zarif was the country’s chief diplomat between 2013 and 2021 and was Tehran’s lead negotiator in a landmark international nuclear treaty with global powers in 2015.
