The old saying goes, take care of the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves. So what should we make of the recent announcement by HM Treasury that no order for new coins has been placed to the Royal Mint, a historic first, and there is an expectation that no new 1p or 2p coins will be minted in the coming years.
