Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship mobile processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, is expected to release this fall. While leaks about its specs and performance have been circulating for months, the new leak casts doubt on previous test results.
A new leak from a Digital Chat Station whistleblower suggests that previous benchmarks were based on low-frequency 8th generation engineering samples. While this is not uncommon, early silicon often runs at lower speeds for stability testing.
But this suggests that the numbers we have seen so far may not reflect the final performance.
The new details shared by the informant also show that the latest version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 has a “2+6” core architecture. The number “2” probably means a pair of high-performance cores that can have clock speeds ranging from 3.6 GHz to 4.0 GHz.
The other “6” cores are most likely efficiency cores, although the source did not share information about their clock speeds. Nevertheless, the chip is said to have scored around 2,700 points in single-core and 10,000 points in multi-core tests in Geekbench 6.
The leak also suggests that the first smartphone on the new chip will be unveiled in mid-October. Xiaomi and OnePlus are typically among the first brands to use Qualcomm‘s latest high-performance processors.
Xiaomi is rumored to launch its Xiaomi 15 series in October, possibly making it the debut phone for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
Meanwhile, OnePlus will also equip its upcoming flagship, OnePlus 13, with this chip. Currently, rumors suggest a change in the design of the smartphone, with a possible departure from the proprietary rear camera location in favor of a stacked camera system.
