The US has launched retaliatory strikes in Iraq and Syria against Iranian-backed militants after three US soldiers were killed in Jordan last week. Dozens of others were also injured in the attack on the Tower 22 base near the Syrian border. It marked the first time US troops have been killed by enemy fire in the Middle East since the beginning of the Gaza war.
