After agricultural unions reacted positively to promises of further aid from the French government, farmers in France broke up most of their blockades on motorways on Friday. In long tractor convoys escorted by the police, the farmers drove along the motorways to return to their home towns. At times, up to 10,000 farmers took part in the protests against falling incomes, EU environmental regulations and what they see as growing red tape.
