Germany is to receive President Joe Biden with the highest honours next week as he makes the first state visit by a US leader in almost 40 years, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s office announced on Thursday. No US president has made a state visit since German reunification in 1990, and the last such visit was by President Ronald Reagan in 1985, when Helmut Kohl was German chancellor.
