A horse has been pulled from a water-filled dyke by Kent Fire and Rescue. The service’s animal rescue unit was called to a farm in Church Street, Higham, between Rochester and Gravesend, where they found a 16-hand mare called Lilly trapped in the mud. They used a hoist around her stomach to lift her to safety in an operation that took over two hours. The horse’s owner was in attendance. Lily was said to have remained calm throughout the ordeal. After being checked over by a vet and found to have no injuries, she was returned to her field to join her companion.
