Just a week before Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event, detailed specifications of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 have been leaked. The leak came courtesy of Evan Blass, a well-known tech leaker, who shared marketing images of both phones on his Substack newsletter.

The leak sheds light on some key improvements, including a brighter screen for the Fold 6 and a larger battery, as well as better cooling for the Flip 6. There’s also good news regarding the durability of both phones.

Galaxy Z Flip 6

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 retains the same display sizes as its predecessor, with a 3.4-inch cover screen and a 6.7-inch main folding display. The main screen has a Full HD+ resolution and a variable refresh rate of 120 Hz, while the cover screen has a resolution of 720 x 748 pixels and operates at 60 Hz.

The biggest news for the Flip 6 is under the hood. It is expected to feature a 4000 mAh battery, compared to the 3700 mAh battery in the Z Flip 5. This should lead to longer battery life. Additionally, the Flip 6 will reportedly be the first phone in the series to feature a steam chamber cooling system, which should help better manage heat during demanding tasks.

The camera setup on the Flip 6 includes an upgrade to a 50-megapixel primary sensor, while the 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor and 10-megapixel selfie camera remain unchanged.

Galaxy Z Fold 6

As for the Fold 6, it has a 6.3-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch main folding display. Both displays have a refresh rate of 120 Hz and peak brightness of up to 2600 nits, which is the same as the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The Fold 6 is expected to be slightly lighter than its predecessor, weighing 239 g compared to 253 g for the Fold 5, and will have the same 4400 mAh battery as its predecessor.

The camera system also remains unchanged, with a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The dual front cameras are also the same – a 10-megapixel sensor on the cover and a 4-megapixel sensor on the main display.

Common characteristics

When it comes to durability, both the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 are expected to be IP48 rated for dust and water resistance. While this is not as good as the IP68 found in many high-end smartphones, it is a significant improvement over the IPX8 typically found on folding phones. The frames of the phones are made of armored aluminum, and the display will be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Moreover, both smartphones will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, paired with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB and 512 GB of storage. The Fold 6 may also have a version with 1 TB of storage.

They will run Android 14 with Samsung ‘s One UI 6.1.1 interface, which includes Galaxy AI. Users will be able to use features such as Circle to Search, translator mode, and note summarization. But there’s no mention of the new AI features for foldable devices that have been rumored before.

Other common features include a side fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, dual-SIM support, and connectivity options such as 5G (up to 6 GHz), Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port. However, Samsung DeX support is expected to be exclusive to the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
