‘Forever chemicals’ present in tap water and hundreds of other consumer products could accelerate cancer progression, a new study has found. Researchers at the Yale School of Public Health exposed colon cancer cells to per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are known as forever chemicals because they do not break down in the environment. The PFAS caused the cells to migrate to new positions, suggesting they could have a similar effect in the human body, in a process known as metastasis.
