Firefighters were called to a property after a kitchen blaze was started by a pan fire. Hot fat from a pan on the hob made its way into the extractor fan and nearly turned serious. Two engines were called to the scene in Western Road, Maidstone, at around 4.50pm on Sunday. A fire service spokesman said: “Crews wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish a small fire in the extractor fan. A high pressure fan was used to clear the house of smoke.
