Two blocks of nine flats could be built on Newtown Road in Newbury. The site, on Sandleford Parade, is currently two retail units. The plot is next to a busy dual carriageway, and another development of 37 flats at Steele Close. The developers say their design will improve the look of the area. They acknowledge that the council can demonstrate it has exceeded its five years’ housing land supply, but claim the new development will contribute to the Government’s objective to boost housing numbers.
