Kristen Faulkner surprised the hesitating top favourites to claim a stunning women’s cycling road race Olympic gold on Sunday. Faulkner, 31, attacked immediately after she and Belgian world champion Lottie Kopecky caught Dutch 2012 winner Marianne Vos and Hungary’s Blanka Vas with some three kilometres left. And she rode to a comfortable gold by eventually 58 seconds after 158 km because Kopecky and Vos chose tactical games over trying to fight back for gold.
