The first US election results have been announced in the small village of Dixville Notch in New Hampshire, and it’s a tie. Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump tied with three votes each, as announced on a handwritten board shortly after midnight (0500 GMT). The voter turnout was 100%. Polling stations opened at midnight (0500 GMT) in the village near the Canadian border, which has kept up the tradition since 1960. Since there are only six registered voters, the counting process is quick. US television broadcast the vote and count live.
