Qualcomm has already confirmed that its next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor will be unveiled in October. Although we have previously heard about its performance only from various leaks and reports, the situation is changing now.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 has finally appeared on the Geekbench platform. Although this listing is most likely not the final production version of the chip – as it is labeled as a “Manufacturer’s Model” – the results show that the SoC will deliver high single-core and multi-core performance.
In the benchmark, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 scored 2884 points in the single-core test, which brings it closer to the Apple A17 Pro, which averages about 2915 points.
However, it’s the multi-core performance that really stands out. The SoC scored 8840 points in the multi-core test – well above the A17 Pro’s average score of around 7300 points.
As we know, Qualcomm is switching to a new architecture for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Instead of the standard Arm cores, the chip will use a special Oryon processor design, similar to the one Qualcomm used in the Snapdragon X series for PCs.
This change in core design is expected to provide a significant performance boost, and the first Geekbench results are already showing signs of this improvement.
The benchmark also reveals details about the Snapdragon 8 Gen4 core architecture. The SoC has an octa-core structure with six base cores and two high-performance cores. The base cores are clocked at 2.78 GHz, while the high-performance cores are clocked at an impressive 4.09 GHz.
Although the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is set to become the best Android SoC in 2025, its achievements will come at a price. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be 25-30% more expensive than the current flagship, the 8 Gen 3. Such an increase in the cost of the chip will inevitably lead to higher prices for flagship smartphones in 2025.
