A team of Cambridge HopHeads members met to collect the hops which grow at the Midsummer Common Orchard on Saturday, after the crop was deemed ready to harvest. The collected hops will be used for home brewing but 3kg also goes to Calverley’s Brewery on Hooper Street, where it is turned into an ale called Californian Common. “Californian Common is what’s known as an anchor steam lager,” says Robin. “It’s basically a lager but fermented with an ale yeast.
