Huawei Mate 70 series will be equipped with a new generation Hisilcon Kirin chip

Huawei has confirmed that its upcoming Mate 70 series will be the first to come with an official version of its proprietary HarmonyOS NEXT operating system. The announcement was made during Huawei’s HDC 2024 developer conference, which also revealed an expected release window in the fourth quarter of this year (October-December).

Now, a new leak from prolific informant Digital Chat Station suggests that the Mate 70 will be powered by a new generation of HiSilicon Kirin 5G SoC, showing Huawei’s continued commitment to in-house chipset development.

There are also rumors that the phone will be equipped with a 50-megapixel ultra-large CMOS image sensor domestically produced, probably by OmniVision.

In addition, Digital Chat Station hints that Huawei is working on a more “heavyweight product”. However, this product is reportedly facing production difficulties due to extremely poor performance. It is not yet clear what exactly this product is, but it could be a new top-of-the-line model in the Mate 70 series.

Another positive sign for the HarmonyOS ecosystem comes from comments made by a whistleblower. They claim that WeChat, the ubiquitous Chinese messaging and social networking app, is working on developing its own app for the consumer version of HarmonyOS NEXT.
