The German military has placed orders with armaments maker Rheinmetall to produce and supply 40mm ammunition for automatic grenade launchers, the company announced on Monday. The deal calls for Rheinmetall to supply tens of thousands of programmable 40mm x 53 Airburst Munition DM131 service cartridges in an order worth around €29.5 million ($31.7 million). Germany’s military also placed a separate order for around 200,000 rounds of 40mm x 53 Ub DM158 practice ammunition, worth an additional €7.18 million.
