The former Conservative chancellor took to social media to announce he would not stand again, on Tuesday morning. He was appointed as chancellor on 6 September 2022, delivering the mini-budget on 23 September, just days after the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. He was relinquished of his job on 14 October 2022, as Liz Truss desperately tried to salvage her premiership, which eventually ended 11 days later, on 25 October.
