The United States has withdrawn the majority of its troops from the West African state of Niger, the US Defense Department said in a statement released on Monday. A farewell ceremony was held at the US air base 201, which cost more than $100 million to build, in the desert city of Agadez. The US has been monitoring the activities of terrorist groups and human traffickers in Libya and in the west Africa Sahel region using drones.
