Democratic candidate Kamala Harris has won the state of Illinois, US networks projected, as former president Donald Trump took the southern state of Arkansas. The results – called by broadcasters CNN, NBC and CBS – followed expectations. Hours after polls first started closing, there have been no surprises for either candidate as they seek the 270 electoral votes needed to secure the presidency. None of the seven battleground states – Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin – have had a winner declared by US media.
