Police arrested a man at the visitor centre of the US Capitol in Washington who “smelled like fuel” and carrying a flare gun. The police said in a post on X that the man was stopped during its screening process at the centre. “The man smelled like fuel, had a torch and a flare gun,” US Capitol Police said, offering no further details. The visitor centre was closed following the incident and all tours cancelled. Security has been significantly beefed up in Washington as the city braces for the possibility of post-election violence.
