Today, almost 1 million children are studying online: about 600,000 in Ukraine and almost 400,000 abroad. In the online format, children from abroad and the temporarily occupied territory can study in the same classroom, while some children sit offline in the classroom.
But this format does not take into account the educational needs of each child. In order to adapt to the needs of each category of children and return students to their desks, the Ministry of Education and Science has launched a comprehensive School Offline program.
Safe face-to-face education is impossible without shelters in schools. Therefore, the team analyzed a huge amount of educational data using the technologies of the world’s top company Palantir. Detailed information about schools was plotted on the map:
- proximity to the front line and infrastructure facilities,
- training format,
- community status,
- number of students and staff,
- and other data for analysis.
The system then helped determine which regions were prioritized to build or repair school shelters there. As a result, 57 schools are already building and repairing shelters.
Previously, it took analysts up to several days to process such data sets. Palantir ‘s technologies help automate processes and speed up this work many times over.
“We need at least 165 more shelters, and this requires about UAH 14 billion. The Ministry of Education and Science is actively attracting donors and international organizations, we are constantly looking for funds and opportunities, because education is now a priority,” Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov wrote in an op-ed for RBC-Ukraine.
According to him, all changes within the School Offline program will be fully launched in 2025. And during the new school year, which starts in September 2024, children, teachers and parents will be able to prepare for the implementation of individual components.
