A Turkish court has sentenced a pro-Kurdish mayor in the country’s south-east to more than 19 years in prison on charges of “leading an armed terrorist organization” and he was arrested, state news agency Anadolu reported on Wednesday. The arrest comes two days after the government replaced pro-Kurdish DEM Party’s Mehmet Siddik Akis, elected as Hakkari mayor in March, with the governor of the same province.
