MacRumors has spotted an unusual feature in the second developer beta of iOS 18.2 that suggests Apple may allow users to upgrade to a paid ChatGPT plan as part of Apple Intelligence. While Siri doesn’t need to use ChatGPT for all of its tasks, some users enjoy using the integration for energy tasks and more.
In the image above, you can see that in the “advanced features” section, there is a “daily limit” section that shows “under limit”. This means that users can only use the latest ChatGPT advanced features a few times a day. This is because free access to ChatGPT-4o on any platform is limited and resets every 24 hours. If you exhaust your daily limit, Siri will switch to the free version of ChatGPT, which has fewer advanced tools. For example, creating DALL-E 3 images is limited to only two per day.
If you click on the “upgrade to ChatGPT Plus” button, you will be redirected to the in-app purchase page. ChatGPT Plus costs $20 per month. Thus, although Apple itself is not implementing a subscription model, it looks like you will have to pay for unlimited premium access to ChatGPT.
Today we also wrote about an update to Apple’s Find Me feature. Like this new ChatGPT integration, it is part of the iOS 18.2 developer beta. Both features are due to launch in the final version of iOS 18.2, which is rumored to be released in early December.
