The opening of the Louvre’s new Department for Byzantine and Eastern Christian art, once planned for 2024 or 2025, will now not take place until the end of 2027, the museum announced on Thursday. The Paris museum says the new department will bring together more than 20,000 works from the beginnings of Christian imagery to the 19th century. They are currently spread across eight existing departments of the museum.
