After two years with little snow and hot summers, the permafrost in many parts of Switzerland has continued to recede, the Swiss Academy of Sciences announced in Bern on Thursday. Since October 2022, it has been exceptionally warm in Switzerland, with air temperatures 1.5 to 1.9 degrees Celsius above the long-term average from 1991 to 2010, the academy said. On top of this came a late onset of winter in the high altitudes and below-average snowfall.
