The Israel Defense Forces published a picture supposedly showing the head of Hamas’ military wing, Mohammed Deif, an image that was widely shared on Saturday evening. It shows a grey-haired, bearded man holding banknotes in his left hand and a plastic cup in his right. Up until the start of the war in Gaza, Israel only had very old images of the man seen as one of the masterminds of the terror attacks mounted by Hamas and other extremist organizations on October 7.
