Brazilian jazz musician and pianist Sérgio Mendes has died at the age of 83, his family said in a statement on Friday. Mendes was famed particularly in the US for his samba and bossa nova rhythms, with several songs winning global renown such as “Mas Que Nada.” In total, he released 35 albums, starting with “Dance Moderno” in 1961.
