Israel has attacked targets in Lebanon near to ancient Roman ruins, the governor of the Baalbek-Hermel district said in a post on X on Sunday. The attack took place 500 to 700 metres from the archaeological sites in Baalbek, Bashir Khodr said in his post, adding a photo of plumes of smoke, apparently taken straight after the attack near the remains of a Roman temple. The Roman ruins in Baalbek, at an altitude of about 1,000 metres, are among the most impressive of antiquity and are a popular tourist destination.
