Scientists have discovered rare early human fossils from the Indonesian island of Flores, a study published on Wednesday has revealed. The fossils included an “astonishingly small” adult limb bone, dated to about 700,000 years old. It is thought to be from a very early individual of the “hobbit” species Homo floresiensis that were uncovered in 2003 at Liang Bua cave in the island’s west. Pre-dating the Liang Bua hominins by 650,000 years, the latest fossil finds belong to at least three individuals with smaller jaws and teeth than Homo floresiensis.
