A village which turned into an island during recent flooding will be guaranteed access with a higher road. Hawton near Newark was effectively cut off during Storm Henk in January. Planners have agreed to modify the Southern Link Road, which is being built nearby, to ensure the village is protected from “one in a hundred-year” flooding events. The road near the village’s junction will be raised with earth embankments on either side.
