In the first negotiations after last week’s nationwide strike by German airport security staff, the two sides are no closer to reaching agreement, negotiators from the Verdi trade union said after talks on Wednesday. Verdi negotiators called a new offer from the employers’ association as “completely inadequate.” Employers said they have offered higher overtime bonuses and hourly wages for a period of 24 months. “Our goal remains to permanently compensate for the employees’ loss of purchasing power,” Verdi negotiator Wolfgang Pieper stressed.
