Parking fees are set to be introduced in a Silchester car park in a bid to raise cash. Hampshire County Council is proposing the fees in rural car parks that have 20 or more spaces and generate an estimated £65,000 per year, as it seeks to plug an anticipated budget gap of £132m over a two-year period. It has already found savings of £90.4m but increases in demand for adults and children social care, special educational needs and school transport means the gap by the end of 2025/26 is expected to be £175m.
