Plans to build a new Lidl supermarket in Dunmow have been opposed by Tesco, which has a superstore in the town. The country’s biggest retailer operates a 5,400 sq m outlet less than a mile from where the German discount brand wants a 1,512 sq m branch on land off Stortford Road. Tesco warns the proposals are likely to have a “significant adverse impact on the vitality and viability of Great Dunmow town centre”.
