Tokyo stocks rose sharply Friday morning, with the Nikkei index briefly rising over 2 percent, lifted by Wall Street gains overnight after lower-than-expected U.S. jobless claims eased recession fears in the world’s largest economy. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average climbed 549.08 points, or 1.58 percent, from Thursday to 35,380.23. The broader Topix index was up 36.65 points, or 1.49 percent, at 2,498.35.
