A 10-year-old girl went under in the Elbe River in the northern German city of Hamburg on Thursday afternoon right in front of her parents. A large contingent from the emergency services searched for hours for the child, unwilling to give up hope. “This is a particularly terrible operation for us,” said a fire brigade spokesman.
