Apple is apparently planning a major redesign of its compact Mac mini computer. This will be the first change in the product line in the last ten years. Despite the more compact form factor, Apple may also equip this mini PC with its new M4 chipset.
Apple 2024 Mac mini: what will happen?
News about the next generation Mac mini from the Cupertino giant came from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. He claims that the company is making the Mac mini even more compact. The new Apple computer may become the smallest Mac mini. Gurman added that this model will have a form factor comparable to Apple TV. Despite the fact that the device may have a smaller form factor, the hardware inside it will be modernized. Reportedly, the Mac mini will be available in two configurations, namely with M4 and M4 Pro chipsets.
Connectivity options include three USB-C ports, an HDMI port, and a power cable. The more powerful M4 Pro variant can run with support for additional RAM and improved graphics. Although the overall physical footprint is smaller, it may be slightly taller than the existing Mac mini. Recall that the height of the Apple mini computer is 1.4 inches. The new model will retain its iconic aluminum body, just like its predecessors. Mark Gurman called the M4 Mac mini an “iPad Pro in a small box”.
Apple is rumored to be planning to update its Mac lineup with M4 chips in 2025. On the other hand, the Mac mini, MacBook Pro, and iMac may switch to these new chips as early as this year. Apple is expected to launch the Mac mini in a few months, and the older model might be released in October. Unfortunately, nothing is known about prices yet. There is a possibility that the Mac mini 2024 will become more expensive, but it is not yet clear.
