Japan’s newly appointed Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, agreed Wednesday that the two nations will build constructive and stable ties during their first phone talks, according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry. Regarding last month’s fatal stabbing of a Japanese schoolboy in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, Iwaya urged Wang to clarify the circumstances surrounding the horrifying incident, citing the heightened safety concerns among Japanese citizens living in China, the ministry said.
